The Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, has cleared former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, of allegations related to medical forgery brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe noted that the prosecution failed to present sufficient evidence to establish a case against Fani-Kayode. The judge emphasized that the EFCC’s inability to link the defendant to the alleged crime rendered it unnecessary for him to present a defense.
“I have carefully reviewed the testimonies of the prosecution witnesses and found no evidence that the defendant committed the alleged offences,” Justice Abike-Fadipe declared.
The former minister had faced a 12-count charge over allegedly submitting forged medical reports during a separate trial concerning an N4.9 billion fraud case at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Speaking to journalists after the judgment, a relieved Fani-Kayode expressed gratitude, stating that he was finally free after nearly two decades of legal battles.
