Imo Workers Protest Minimum Wage Disparities, Demand Fair Adjustment

Governor Hope Uzodinma’s implementation of the new minimum wage in Imo State has sparked outrage among senior civil servants, who claim they were shortchanged in the salary adjustment process. While junior workers (levels 1–7) reportedly received significant increments—some over ₦20,000—their senior counterparts (levels 8–17) saw minimal increases, with some getting less than ₦20,000 as an addition to their salaries.
The salary review saw junior workers’ earnings rise significantly, with level 1 workers now receiving over ₦60,000, while those in levels 2 to 7 reportedly earn between ₦70,000 and ₦80,000. However, senior workers argue that their meager increments fail to reflect a fair wage adjustment.
Aggrieved employees are now calling on labour leaders to intervene and demanding that pay officers publicly release the payment templates and salary scales to ensure transparency.
