The Federal Government has successfully relocated 40 internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugee households, comprising over 300 individuals, to the resettlement city in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
According to the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Tijani Ahmed, the move is part of efforts to provide decent accommodation and renew hope for displaced persons.
Speaking during the relocation exercise in Keffi, Ahmed explained that beneficiaries were selected voluntarily and will be integrated into the host community.
“We have fully allocated this resettlement city to 40 households, comprising over 300 individuals. Our next step is to integrate them into the immediate community by equipping them with skills and trade opportunities,” Ahmed stated.
He further disclosed that the Emir of Keffi has been informed of the relocation and that additional support structures are in place, including:
• Greenhouses for farming to help refugees sustain themselves.
• A market within the camp to enable trade and economic activities.
• Security arrangements in partnership with Nasarawa State authorities.
• Education and healthcare support, with local SUBEB teachers and primary health workers assigned to assist.
Ahmed emphasized that the resettlement project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at providing shelter, security, and empowerment for displaced Nigerians.
“We thank President Tinubu for making this possible. His vision is to restore hope for the less privileged, and we are committed to ensuring that these IDPs and refugees find stability and dignity in their new homes,” he added.
The Commissioner also revealed that more houses will be built to accommodate additional displaced persons
