Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has strengthened healthcare delivery in the state with the inauguration of key medical infrastructure, including the Akwa Ibom State Medical Oxygen Production Plant (AKSMOPP) in Ituk Mbang, a Model Primary Health Centre on Wellington Bassey Way, and the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance Systems (AKISEMSAS).
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Governor Eno reiterated his administration’s commitment to making quality healthcare accessible across the 31 local government areas. He emphasized that alongside building modern facilities, the government was also implementing health insurance schemes to enhance medical services and reduce medical tourism.
The governor warned against misuse of state-owned ambulances, stating that henceforth, no government ambulance would be used for burial purposes. He also mandated that all private healthcare ambulances be registered with the Ministry of Health.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, who commissioned the projects, commended Governor Eno for his strategic investments in the healthcare sector. He urged other states to emulate Akwa Ibom’s commitment to healthcare development, stating that such investments were critical to improving lives.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ekem John, provided an overview of the projects, highlighting the integration of ICT facilities and electronic medical records to ensure efficiency. He also noted that the emergency response system now includes 28 fully equipped ambulances tracked in real-time from a centralized call center.
Governor Eno assured Akwa Ibom residents that his administration would continue prioritizing healthcare, ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to life-saving medical services.
