Veteran journalist and former PDP presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has warned that certain political forces are working to disqualify Atiku Abubakar from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview, Momodu accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using federal power to destabilize the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He alleged that similar tactics were used in the past to weaken opposition voices and believes some PDP members are betraying the party.
Momodu also reacted to General Ibrahim Babangida’s recent comments on the June 12, 1993, election annulment, stating that the military was unwilling to relinquish power, even though Abiola’s victory should have been upheld.
On Atiku’s possible candidacy, Momodu insisted that political ambition is a personal choice and no one should be excluded based on sentiment. He also hinted at a potential alliance between PDP, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, suggesting that a strong coalition could pose a significant challenge to the APC in 2027.
Finally, he criticized the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, arguing that Nigerians are experiencing worsening hardship. He urged the government to focus on solutions that offer immediate relief instead of policies that exacerbate the suffering of citizens.
