Suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has petitioned the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) seeking the disbarment of Senator Neda Imasuen of Edo South.
Imasuen, who serves as the chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, had recommended sanctions against Akpoti-Uduaghan for alleged misconduct during a Senate plenary session.
In her petition, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Imasuen of professional misconduct, citing a 2010 ruling by the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, which allegedly disbarred him for fraud, misappropriation of client funds, and failure to respond to disciplinary authorities. She provided a copy of the court ruling as evidence and promised to present additional proof.
According to the petition, Imasuen was disbarred after a client, Daphne Slyfield, lodged a complaint against him for accepting substantial legal fees but abandoning the case. Following his disbarment, he relocated to Nigeria, pursued a political career, and eventually secured a Senate seat without disclosing his legal sanction.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also accused Imasuen of ignoring an interim order issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja on March 4, which halted disciplinary actions against her. Despite this, he proceeded with recommending her six-month suspension, which was later approved by the Senate.
