The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has strongly condemned what it describes as a campaign of misinformation and blackmail against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) concerning the recall process of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Comrade Israel Uwejeyan, the group denounced alleged attempts by politicians to incite unrest, sponsor protests, and undermine INEC’s credibility.
NDYC emphasized that INEC operates independently within a constitutional framework and should not be pressured by external influences. The group described allegations of corruption and political interference in the recall process as baseless and aimed at misleading the public.
The NDYC also warned that certain individuals were mobilizing thugs to stage violent demonstrations to create the false impression of public discontent with INEC. The group urged security agencies to act swiftly against such elements to prevent instability.
“We have received credible intelligence that desperate individuals are attempting to manipulate public perception by staging protests to discredit INEC,” the statement read. “This sinister agenda must be stopped to protect Nigeria’s democracy.”
The NDYC called on INEC to remain steadfast in upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process, ensuring that due process is followed without political interference.
