Former Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has denied claims that he was kidnapped and forced to make statements against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. His response follows widespread concerns raised by his wife, Florence Nwaeke, who had earlier alleged that her husband had gone missing after his resignation.
In a video released on Saturday, March 29th, Nwaeke clarified that he traveled to Abuja of his own accord to report himself to security agencies regarding political developments in Rivers State. He dismissed his wife’s fears as being fueled by misinformation, stating that he was “safe and sound” and not under any form of duress.
His denial came after his wife, Florence, went public with a distress message, claiming she suspected foul play after watching a video interview in which he accused Governor Fubara of orchestrating the 2023 bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly. She said she sent him multiple messages asking if he was under duress, but he did not respond.
Governor Fubara has since refuted Nwaeke’s allegations, calling them “laughable” and insisting that the former Head of Service would not have been privy to sensitive political discussions. The governor described Nwaeke’s statements as a deliberate attempt to discredit his administration and create political tension in the state.
The situation has further deepened the already heated political atmosphere in Rivers State, as conflicting narratives continue to emerge regarding the state’s leadership crisis.
