In a colourful and culturally rich ceremony held in Babanla Town, Ilere Ward of Ifelodun LGA, Kwara State, Hon. Olatunde Owolabi Rasaq—popularly known as HOOR—was on Sunday, June 8, conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Gbobaniyi of Babanla Land.
The ceremony formed part of the 40th coronation anniversary celebration of Oba Aliyu Alabi Yusuf Adegboyega, who presides as the traditional ruler of Babanla. Attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and community members from across Nigeria and beyond, the event served as a mark of appreciation for Owolabi’s developmental impact across the constituency.
Oba Adegboyega praised the lawmaker’s track record, highlighting infrastructure, education, and healthcare projects brought to Babanla and the larger Share/Oke-ode axis. The monarch described Owolabi as one of the most result-oriented legislators in Kwara State and declared the chieftaincy title as both a reward and an encouragement.
This makes it the eighth traditional title received by Hon. Owolabi, joining a list that includes Oluomo of Oke-ode, Jagunmolu of Babanloma, and Akeweje Oodua of Northern Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Owolabi thanked the monarch and people of Babanla for the honour, reaffirming his commitment to grassroots development. “This recognition means a lot to me, and I remain committed to contributing more positively to the growth and development of our communities,” he said.
He also prayed for continued peace and prosperity under Oba Adegboyega’s reign.
