In what Ukrainian officials have described as one of the largest aerial offensives since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Russia unleashed a massive wave of drone and missile attacks across multiple cities overnight. The Ukrainian military reported over 500 aerial threats, including Iranian-made Shahed drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles targeting Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Dnipro, Chernihiv, and several smaller towns in central and eastern Ukraine.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine confirmed significant damage to civilian infrastructure, including residential buildings, energy facilities, and transportation hubs. At least 13 people were reported dead with over 45 injured across affected regions. Emergency crews have been deployed to respond to fires, collapsed buildings, and evacuations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a televised address, calling the bombardment “cowardly terrorism against our people” and urging Western allies to accelerate the delivery of air defense systems. The attack comes just days before an international summit on Ukraine’s future is scheduled to take place in Switzerland, raising concerns that Moscow may be trying to weaken Kyiv’s negotiating position through brute force.
Western leaders have condemned the strikes, with the U.S., UK, and EU issuing statements of support and promising additional aid packages in response.
