JIGAWA RENOVATES 587 FLOOD-RAVAGED SCHOOLS, HIRES OVER 3,400 TEACHERS IN TWO-YEAR EDUCATION REVAMP

In a bold push to rejuvenate Jigawa State’s education system, the administration of Governor Umar Namadi has renovated 587 public schools damaged by floodwaters and recruited 3,420 new teachers within two years, according to the Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Yusif Chamo.
Speaking in Dutse during a press briefing to mark the governor’s two-year milestone in office, Professor Chamo described the large-scale school reconstruction as a cornerstone of the government’s strategy to ensure safer, better-equipped, and more conducive learning environments in both urban and rural areas. The effort follows years of recurrent flooding that had left many schools in disrepair and unfit for use.
The state’s recruitment campaign, Professor Chamo said, includes the engagement of 1,100 temporary J-teach instructors, 72 degree holders, and an impressive 149 first-class graduates, all of whom have been offered permanent teaching appointments. A further 2,200 degree-holding teachers were transferred from the State Basic Education Board to the Ministry of Higher Education as part of a restructuring drive to improve the quality of instruction at post-basic institutions.
To further improve educational outcomes, the state has conducted 15 rounds of intensive training for teachers—focusing on Mathematics, English, and Science—and provided administrative training for school heads to improve educational leadership and resource management. The commissioner also highlighted the provision of modern teaching tools, including whiteboards and markers, and the fencing of 120 schools to strengthen campus security.
Chamo reaffirmed that Governor Namadi’s administration views education as the foundation of sustainable development and human capital advancement, pledging continued investments in infrastructure, teacher welfare, and learning standards across Jigawa.
