In a strong reaffirmation of his administration’s inclusive governance philosophy, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced that the Office of the First Lady will soon embark on a sensitisation tour targeting women across all 31 Local Government Areas of the state. The initiative, which he described as a non-partisan State programme, is aimed at strengthening unity among women, promoting cooperative enterprise, and stimulating socio-economic awareness at the grassroots.
The announcement was made during the July edition of the monthly Government House Covenant Service, held on July 1, 2025, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo. Governor Eno, who addressed a diverse audience of religious leaders, political stakeholders, and civil society participants, reiterated his belief that governance must transcend political divides to touch the lives of all citizens.
“The Office of the First Lady will soon start sensitisation across the Local Government Areas and will be working with wives of Local Government Chairmen to ensure that we energise and sensitise our women. This is a State programme and is across party lines,” he declared.
In a reaffirmation of his earlier commitment during the 2025 International Women’s Day, Governor Eno also disclosed plans to introduce an official ARISE Women uniform to mark the tour. He further revealed that 60 Nigeria-for-Women Projects—co-funded by the World Bank and the state government—would be formally commissioned during the outreach.
This announcement is seen as a major step in driving one of the core pillars of the ARISE Agenda—social inclusion—through practical grassroots engagements, capacity building, and financial empowerment of women. The Governor’s inclusive language and bipartisan tone at the service highlighted his evolving political leadership style since his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move he said has not altered his responsibility to all Akwa Ibomites.
