A special court-martial of the Nigerian Army has handed life imprisonment to four soldiers convicted of aiding Boko Haram insurgents, while several other personnel received prison terms of varying lengths. The tribunal, led by Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, addressed offenses that included collusion with insurgents, unlawful dealings in ammunition, and theft of military property.
During the trial, evidence presented by military prosecutors showed that the convicted soldiers provided logistical support, diverted weapons, and compromised the security of operational areas. Additional soldiers implicated in related activities received sentences ranging from 10 to 15 years for misconduct and accessory involvement.
The verdict underscores the military’s strict disciplinary framework and commitment to ensuring that personnel adhere to the highest standards of loyalty, responsibility, and integrity. Military authorities have confirmed that all sentences are being executed in accordance with military law.
