The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has assured the public that sufficient quantities of banknotes will be made available ahead of the 2025 year-end festivities, to prevent cash shortages during the yuletide season. The assurance was given by CBN officials in a press briefing.
According to the CBN, printing, distribution, and logistic arrangements have been intensified to ensure that commercial banks, Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), and financial institutions across states receive adequate cash supply early. The bank also noted that special cash dispatches will be made to remote and underserved areas to forestall regional cash shortages.
Officials urged citizens to use digital payments and electronic channels where possible to reduce physical cash demand. The CBN reiterated that its plan is to balance cash liquidity with quality banknotes in circulation, emphasizing that policy measures have been taken to reduce counterfeiting and the circulation of worn or mutilated notes.
