As Nigeria celebrates 65 years of independence, Senator Natasha Akpoti has called on citizens to look beyond ethnic, religious, and political divides in the quest to build a more united and prosperous country.
In her Independence message, Senator Akpoti acknowledged that while Nigeria has achieved notable milestones since 1960, the country is still grappling with poverty, unemployment, insecurity, and infrastructural decay. She emphasized that unity remains the bedrock upon which any meaningful progress can be achieved.
“we must remember that the struggles of our founding fathers were not for a divided nation. Their sacrifices were for a Nigeria where peace, equity, and opportunity prevail. At 65, we cannot afford to keep repeating the mistakes of the past,” she said.
The Senator urged leaders at all levels to prioritize policy continuity, economic diversification, and social justice, warning that unchecked corruption and divisive politics are weakening the nation’s foundations.
She also called on young Nigerians to channel their energy into innovation, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship, stressing that their generation holds the keys to unlocking Nigeria’s vast potential.
