The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has accused Governor Monday Okpebholo of dismantling the policy structures and development initiatives established by former Governor Godwin Obaseki, warning that such reversals could undermine years of progress.
In a statement issued in Benin City by PDP spokesperson Chris Nehikhare, the party said the new administration has “systematically sidelined” many of the Obaseki-era reforms, including the EdoBEST education initiative, civil service reforms, and digital governance programmes.
Nehikhare alleged that several projects inaugurated in the previous administration — especially in technology and healthcare — have been “abandoned or rebranded without continuity.”
The statement read, “Edo people deserve continuity, not destruction. Governance is not about erasing history because of political difference.”
The PDP also cited stalled road projects and alleged that several contractors have been dismissed without proper review, warning that politicising development could hurt investor confidence.
Governor Okpebholo’s team has not issued a detailed rebuttal but previously stated that his government is auditing all ongoing projects to ensure value for money and eliminate duplication.
Observers note that the disagreement is a clear reflection of the political realignment currently underway, as the new administration consolidates control amid fading influence from the Obaseki bloc.
