Qatar’s Emir has issued a public condemnation of atrocities committed by paramilitary forces in Sudan, joining a chorus of regional and international leaders calling for accountability and immediate protection for civilians. The Emir’s statement singled out reports of mass killings, sexual violence, and mass displacement in Darfur and other conflict zones.
Qatar, which has played a diplomatic role in parts of the region, called for an immediate halt to hostilities, unfettered humanitarian access, and cooperation with international investigators to document potential war crimes. The statement also urged neighbouring states to support safe corridors for civilians and aid.
Sudan’s conflict, now well over a year old in many hotspots, has prompted international alarm over large-scale human suffering. Calls for condemnation and accountability from prominent regional players like Qatar add pressure for concerted diplomatic and humanitarian action.
