The federal government of Nigeria says it has disbursed additional funds to public universities as part of a renewed effort to upgrade tertiary-education infrastructure and support academic institutions nationwide.
Under the 2025 intervention by TETFund, each public university is set to receive roughly ₦2.86 billion, while polytechnics and colleges of education will receive nearly ₦1.99 billion and ₦2.18 billion respectively, as part of funding allocated for infrastructure upgrades, school rehabilitation, and academic support programmes.
Addressing earlier criticism of underfunding and infrastructure decay, the government says these allocations reflect a commitment to revamping campuses, upgrading laboratories and workshops, expanding technical-vocation training, and supporting student innovation hubs.
Education-sector watchers believe the funding infusion could help reverse decades of infrastructural neglect and renew hope for improved academic and research standards provided funds are used transparently and efficiently.
