Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced plans to train, supervise, and certify Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) to align their practices with modern healthcare standards.
Speaking at the 2025 State Convention of TBAs in Uyo, the Governor directed the Ministry of Health to oversee the training, ensuring that birth attendants become recognized as community healthcare workers.
Governor Eno emphasized the importance of integrating TBAs into the state’s primary healthcare system, citing their role in maternal care, especially in rural communities.
Expressing appreciation for their endorsement of his re-election bid in 2027, the Governor assured that TBAs would play a key role in his administration’s healthcare expansion efforts, including the upcoming Mother-Child Hospital under the ARISE Agenda.
The President of Akwa Ibom State TBAs, Comrade Otobong George, lauded the Governor’s support and urged the government to enact policies regulating their profession to enhance service delivery.
