The Bauchi State government has commenced steps toward the establishment of 29 additional Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state, aiming to bring administrative governance closer to communities and enhance resource allocation.Â
The proposal, announced by the State House of Assembly, includes creating councils in remote and frontier zones lacking easy access to government services. Though details are still being worked out, state lawmakers said the move is designed to improve public service delivery, representation, and grassroots participation.
Stakeholders from the affected communities were invited to public hearings to discuss boundaries, fiscal viability, and staff deployment. The state government said that once approved, the newly created LGAs would receive allocations and administrative infrastructure to commence operations.
Critics raised concerns about costs, duplication of roles, and administrative burden, but supporters argued that the benefits in proximity and local governance justify the plan. The proposal awaits final legislative approval and recognition from the federal government before full implementation.
