BORNO VILLAGERS FLEE TO CAMEROON STREETS AFTER TROOPS WITHDRAW

Residents of Kirawa, a Borno State border community, are enduring a dire humanitarian emergency—spending nights in open spaces, schools, and mosques in Cameroon’s Kerawa after recent Boko Haram attacks forced Nigerian troops to withdraw from the area.

District Head Abdulrahman Abubakar confirmed that between 80% and 90% of Kirawa’s populace has sought refuge across the border, citing extreme fear of renewed insurgent assaults.

One affected resident, Buba Aji, described harrowing conditions, including sleeping in the rain and escaping without shelter. The community joined in a coordinated prayer for immediate military deployment and relief aid.

Gen. Ishaq Abdullahi, security adviser to Governor Zulum, assured that state authorities are aware and will act swiftly.

This local crisis mirrors broader patterns across the Lake Chad basin, where persistent Boko Haram violence continues to displace civilians actively, leaving many in desperate cross-border limbo.
