Delta Gov Oborevwori presents n1.664 trillion 2026 budget to State Assembly

The Governor of Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday laid before the Delta State House of Assembly in Asaba a proposed 2026 appropriation bill of ₦1.664 trillion, marking a major increase over the 2025 budget.

Of the total, ₦499 billion (about 30 %) is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while a substantial ₦1.165 trillion (70 %) is targeted for capital projects — a clear signal of the administration’s intent to accelerate infrastructure and socio-economic development under the banner of the “MORE Agenda.”

Governor Oborevwori highlighted several key sectors set to benefit in 2026: ₦450 billion has been allocated for road construction and maintenance (both urban and rural), ₦105.086 billion for education expansion, and ₦50.067 billion for healthcare upgrades across primary, general and tertiary health facilities.

Other allocations include ₦20 billion each to the state’s Capital Territory Development Agency and the Warri-Uvwie-Environs Development Agency to advance urban infrastructure and flood control in Asaba and Warri respectively; ₦10 billion for agriculture to boost food security; ₦16 billion for energy upgrades; and ₦20 billion for social-protection programmes aimed at poverty reduction.   Additionally, ₦100 billion is earmarked for direct interventions across the state’s 25 local government areas (an average of ₦4 billion per LGA) to ensure more equitable development at the grassroots level.

On revenue, the governor expressed optimism, pointing to increased oil-derivation proceeds, improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), VAT remittances, and federal allocations all of which are projected to boost state resources under a recovering national economy.

Oborevwori also underscored security as a top priority, promising deployment of modern surveillance technologies including drones and advanced monitoring systems, alongside continued logistical and financial support to security agencies operating in Delta State.

In response, the Assembly Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, described the 2026 proposal as a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to broad-based development under the “MORE Agenda.” He pledged prompt and thorough legislative scrutiny of the bill, stressing the need for accountability, transparency, and people-centred outcomes.
