DSS DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN KANU’S ARREST IN KENYA
The Department of State Services (DSS) has disclaimed any role in the controversial arrest of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya in 2021, asserting that it lacks the legal authority to carry out foreign operations.
This was disclosed during cross-examination of an intelligence officer codenamed “BBB” at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The witness, affiliated with the DSS, said the agency operates strictly within Nigerian borders under the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
Kanu, currently on trial, has repeatedly claimed he was abducted and forcibly returned to Nigeria. The DSS testimony also tied Kanu’s broadcasts to violence during the EndSARS protests and other unrests, accusing him of incitement and support for violent separatism.
The DSS insisted its intelligence gathering relies on open-source and human intelligence but operates within constitutional boundaries. The case continues in court amid ongoing debates over the legality of Kanu’s detention and prosecution.
