Civil society organizations in Edo State have expressed concern over the handling of security in the wake of the kidnapping and death of a 21-year-old seminarian in Etsako East Local Government Area. The victim, abducted alongside a priest who was later released, was confirmed dead after abduction. Advocacy groups have criticized the government and security agencies for delayed response and inadequate protective measures, highlighting systemic lapses in law enforcement and public safety.
The civil society bodies have called for urgent review of regional security strategies, strengthened intelligence networks, and more proactive policing to prevent similar incidents. They noted that the tragic case underscores broader insecurity challenges in Edo North and emphasized the need for government accountability and citizen protection. Recommendations include greater investment in security infrastructure, community policing initiatives, and rapid-response units to address abductions and violent crimes.
