The government of Edo State led by Governor Monday Okpebholo has signalled a crackdown on sub-standard project execution across its infrastructure portfolio, warning that contractors who display inefficiency or fail to meet standards will face termination of their contracts.
In a statement published at the conclusion of a weekly government briefing, the administration declared its intolerance for mediocrity and emphasised that ongoing projects must align with the ARISE (“Shine” in local branding) Agenda, which prioritises quality, accountability and timely delivery.
The directive comes amid an intensifying push for improved service delivery and infrastructural outcomes in the state. Government officials noted that both inherited and new projects will be subject to stricter oversight, enhanced performance metrics and possible contract re-tendering if benchmark standards aren’t met. The warning to contractors is also coupled with the reinforcement of project monitoring mechanisms and empowerment of oversight agencies to enforce compliance.
By signalling this zero-tolerance posture on negligence and under-performance, the Okpebholo administration aims to ensure that development dividends reach citizens and that public resources yield visible, timely outcomes rather than becoming stagnant or delayed.
