The Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA) has led a swift and coordinated rescue operation following a road traffic accident at the Ovia Bridge along the Benin–Ore highway.
According to the Executive Secretary of EDOSEMA, Mrs. Helen Obayuwana, the agency received an emergency alert early in the day and immediately mobilized its disaster response team in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Nigerian Red Cross, and other emergency partners.
On arrival at the scene, the rescue teams carried out first aid interventions, evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals, and ensured the safe clearance of the accident site to prevent secondary incidents. Obayuwana commended the quick response of the joint agencies and emphasized that Edo State will continue to invest in disaster preparedness and emergency response systems to safeguard lives.
She called on motorists to drive carefully, especially along highways with high vehicular movement, and reiterated the state’s commitment to strengthening early response infrastructure and community awareness campaigns on road safety.
