ENUGU AIRPORT CLOSED FOR EMERGENCY REPAIRS, FLIGHTS DIVERTED
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a temporary closure of Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State beginning April 22, 2025. According to a statement signed by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the closure is necessitated by an emergency situation involving a “sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.” The airport will remain closed until May 6, 2025, as emergency rehabilitation is carried out.
The authority assured that safety remains its top priority and stressed that no landings or takeoffs will be permitted throughout the period of repair. FAAN expressed regret over the late notice but appealed to passengers and stakeholders for understanding, noting that all incoming flights will be diverted to alternative airports.
