EX-NIMASA BOSS OPPOSES OGONI OIL EXPLORATION

Former NIMASA Director General, Dakuku Peterside, has raised concerns over plans to resume oil exploration in Ogoni Land, Rivers State.

Peterside described the move as “premature,” stressing the need for further consultations and trust-building with stakeholders.

“The government must demonstrate genuine commitment to environmental governance. The opaque distribution of benefits from oil exploration remains a persistent issue,” he said.

President Bola Tinubu recently tasked National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu with coordinating negotiations to facilitate the resumption of oil production in the region. However, Peterside warned that without transparency, progress would remain elusive.
