Federal Workers Still Face Salary Shortfalls as Labour Engages FG

The issue of salary shortfalls for federal civil servants, which first surfaced in December 2024 and became more pronounced in January, has reportedly persisted in February, causing distress among affected workers.

Some federal employees who have received their February salaries confirmed that the discrepancies remain unresolved, despite government assurances of a fix. The problem has been linked to a “systematic error” in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

Reacting to the situation, Roselyn Anarah, President of the Nigeria Union of Public Service Reportorial Secretariat, Data Processors and Allied Workers (NUPSRAW) and Treasurer of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JPSNC), stated that the union had engaged the government on the issue and received feedback that efforts were underway to resolve it.

Similarly, JPSNC National Chairman, Benjamin Anthony, urged affected workers to report discrepancies through their industrial unions while assuring that the matter had been escalated to the Accountant-General’s office for investigation.

The salary deductions are suspected to be linked to the omission of a peculiar allowance negotiated by the council, which was supposed to be continued but appears to have been left out by the IPPIS system.
