President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the inclusion of Edo State in the ambitious Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project, a development expected to transform the state’s road infrastructure and economy.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, confirmed the approval after a review of the project’s alignment, explaining that Edo will now have a 100km stretch of the 700km coastal road. The adjustment links Edo directly to other southern states, including Ondo, Delta, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
Governor Monday Okpebholo praised the decision, calling it “an extraordinary demonstration of the President’s commitment to Edo people.” He stressed that the project would boost commerce, reduce travel time, and enhance regional integration.
Umahi, who recently inspected federal roads in the state, assured residents that ongoing rehabilitation works would be fast-tracked. He also commended Governor Okpebholo for personally funding emergency repairs on the Benin–Sapele–Warri road to ease the suffering of commuters.
The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway is one of the President’s flagship infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda. It is designed to improve inter-state connectivity and create jobs across the southern corridor of Nigeria.
