FIRST LADY SUED OVER NATIONAL LIBRARY FUNDRAISING

The First Lady, Remi Tinubu, is facing legal action as a group of petitioners has filed a suit challenging the ongoing fundraising campaign for the National Library of Nigeria. The plaintiffs allege that there is lack of transparency in the fundraising process, and they are demanding full disclosure of how the funds collected are being managed.

The suit, filed in the Federal High Court, seeks an injunction to halt further fundraising until public accounts are released, donor receipts published, and an independent audit conducted. The petitioners argue that citizens have a right to accountability when public contributions are solicited for national projects.

In response, the First Lady’s office has acknowledged receipt of the suit and assured that it will cooperate with any lawful judicial process. Officials confirmed that the campaign’s documents, donor lists, and financial records are available and will be presented to the court if ordered.

The litigation represents a tension between philanthropic projects led by public figures and the obligation to maintain financial transparency when soliciting public funds.
