Gov Eno commits to Professionalism in Power Sector Reforms

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged that recruitment into the state’s power sector will be based strictly on merit and professionalism, with no political influence.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2-day State Electricity Summit held at Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, the Governor unveiled plans to establish the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission (AKSERC) and the Akwa Ibom State Electrification Agency (AISEA) within the next month.

“These roles are strictly professional and will be filled only by technically qualified candidates through the Arise Employment Portal. Electricity is too critical to be politicized,” the Governor declared.

The Governor also announced plans to rehabilitate Ibom Power Company, establish a state-owned distribution company, expand renewable energy projects, and enforce a Consumer Bill of Rights for electricity users. He assured that the first phase of the State Electrification Plan would bring sustainable electricity to underserved communities within 24 months.

The summit featured robust deliberations with representatives from the Federal Government, neighbouring states, development partners, and private sector stakeholders, with participants commending the state’s roadmap as a model for Nigeria.
