Gov Umo Eno Reassures Akwa Ibomites Over Cross River Oil Wells Dispute

Amid renewed efforts by the Cross River State Government to reclaim 76 oil wells ceded to Akwa Ibom in 2012, Governor Umo Eno has urged calm, assuring that the matter is under control.

Speaking at the March Government House Monthly Prayer Service, the Governor recalled that the Supreme Court had twice ruled in favor of Akwa Ibom, reaffirming its legal ownership of the oil wells.

He urged the people to remain steadfast in prayer, reiterating that what rightfully belongs to the state will not be lost.

The Supreme Court ruling of 2012, delivered by Justice Olufunlola Adekeye, established that Cross River lost its littoral status after the Bakassi Peninsula was ceded to Cameroon in 2008, making it ineligible to claim offshore oil wells.

Governor Eno also urged Akwa Ibom people to avoid disparaging leaders, warning that such actions could discourage them from giving their best. He emphasized that respect for leadership fosters unity and encouraged support for President Bola Tinubu, so he continues to make wise decisions for the country.

He further announced that Oron Federal Constituency will host the next Town Hall Meeting and urged stakeholders to utilize the state’s procurement portal for business opportunities.
