Abia State Governor Alex Otti has promised to review the pension agreement signed between the state government and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) regarding unpaid arrears from past administrations.
Speaking at the 80th birthday thanksgiving service of Senator Chris Adighije, Otti addressed concerns raised by Rev. Ernest Onyeukwu about pensioners’ welfare. He clarified that his administration did not force pensioners into the agreement, emphasizing that over N10 billion had already been paid to settle arrears inherited from previous governments.
The governor expressed disappointment that some pensioners had allowed those responsible for the debt to misrepresent his administration. However, he assured that their concerns would be re-examined. His statement has been met with optimism among pensioners, who hope for a fair resolution to their demands.
