The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to politicians and officials in the South-East, cautioning against the misappropriation of the N250 billion allocated for the newly established South-East Development Commission (SEDC).
In a statement on Sunday, 9th March, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, emphasized that the funds must be used strictly for the region’s development, including infrastructure and economic projects.
“Our attention has been drawn to the N250 billion allocated to the SEDC under Dr. Emeka Nworgu’s leadership, with oversight from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. If this information is accurate, we strongly warn against any mismanagement or diversion of these funds,” the statement read.
IPOB outlined key areas for investment, including road expansion, hospital rehabilitation, power plants, industrial parks, and the establishment of functional seaports and international airports in the region. It also urged authorities to prioritize technical and creative skill programs for youth development.
While acknowledging that N250 billion alone may not be sufficient for large-scale transformation, IPOB insisted that the funds must be managed transparently. The group vowed to monitor the allocation and expose any misuse, warning that “this is not the time for politicians to loot public funds without accountability.”
