JAMB TO HOLD SPECIAL MOP-UP EXAM FOR 2025 UTME ABSENTEES, PROMISES TRANSPARENCY IN ADMISSIONS
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a special mop-up examination for over 5.6 percent of candidates who missed the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede, speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, explained that this new round of exams will accommodate all absentees, irrespective of the reasons for missing the original tests. Emphasising fairness, Oloyede said the UTME is not a measure of intelligence but a ranking tool for limited university slots. He denied allegations of ethnic bias or administrative failure, affirming that leadership requires taking responsibility amid crises. He also commended the resilience of candidates and staff who faced logistical constraints during the original exam window. The dates for the mop-up will be announced shortly, and JAMB has reiterated its commitment to fairness and transparency in the ongoing admission process.
