The Kano State government has filed a 10-count criminal charge against former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, accusing him of diverting N4.4 billion in public funds during his tenure.
The charges, brought by the state’s anti-corruption agency and filed at a Kano High Court, allege conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of public funds and inflation of contracts, among other offences. Officials said the indictment follows internal audits and forensic accounting reports that identified irregular payments and suspicious vendor arrangements.
Ganduje, who has consistently denied wrongdoing in the past, is expected to appear in court to respond to the allegations. His legal team has signaled plans to challenge the charges procedurally and to demand full disclosure of evidence.
The case marks a high-profile escalation in efforts by Kano authorities to tackle alleged corruption by former officials. Legal experts say the trial, if it proceeds, will test the state’s prosecution capacity and the judiciary’s ability to handle politically sensitive cases.
