KANO UNCOVERS ₦28M FRAUD IN SALARY PAYROLL
The Kano State Government has uncovered an alarming case of fraudulent salary payments totaling ₦28 million, paid to 247 deceased or retired workers. The irregularity was discovered during a payroll validation exercise for the March 2025 salary cycle. According to Musa Tanko Muhammad, the Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), the issue was identified in the Local Government Councils’ payroll system.
This discovery is part of the ongoing efforts by the administration of Governor Abba Yusuf to reform the state’s salary management system. A Pay Parade Committee has been formed to oversee the review and ensure the integrity of payroll systems across all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and Local Government Councils. As a result of the findings, the misappropriated funds have been recovered and returned to the Local Government Treasury.
Governor Yusuf’s administration has vowed to identify and prosecute those responsible for the fraudulent activity, reinforcing its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance.
