MOHBAD’S FATHER CLAIMS HE PAID N16 MILLION FOR INDEPENDENT AUTOPSY AMID STALLED INQUIRY
Joseph Aloba, the father of late Afrobeats sensation Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has made a startling claim that he paid N16 million out of his own pocket to a pathologist for an independent autopsy on his son’s remains. Aloba made this revelation during a recent TikTok live session, insisting that contrary to public reports and online speculation quoting a lower sum, he paid the full N16 million in a single tranche. He added that his total expenditure relating to the autopsy and surrounding arrangements approached N18 million after factoring in other associated costs.
This revelation comes a month after a medical review conducted by Dr. Uwom Eze—an independent pathologist selected by Aloba—failed to provide a definitive cause of death. The findings deepened the mystery surrounding Mohbad’s sudden and controversial demise in September 2023, which triggered protests, candlelight vigils, and widespread calls for justice across Nigeria. In June 2024, the Coroner Court in Ikorodu had granted Joseph Aloba permission to appoint a private pathologist to conduct a second autopsy after perceived delays and opacity in the initial state-led investigation. However, even the new autopsy has not yielded clarity, further fueling public distrust and frustration among Mohbad’s fans. Many now worry that justice may remain elusive, with the cause of death still formally undetermined despite intense scrutiny and high public interest.
