The Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority has allocated ₦9 billion in its 2025 fiscal budget for multiple projects across Niger State, according to the agency’s Managing Director, Aliyu Tajudeen Abdullah. Speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at Government House, Minna, Abdullah said the projects were designed to align with the developmental aspirations of the state government.
Projects under the funding include the construction and rehabilitation of dams, expansion of irrigation schemes, improvement of rural access roads, and the distribution of farm equipment to boost agricultural productivity. Abdullah emphasized that the Authority is committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s agricultural transformation agenda through regional partnerships.
Governor Bago expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, affirming his administration’s readiness to work with the Authority and other federal institutions to realize the state’s developmental vision. He noted that Niger State is already playing a leading role in piloting the federal government’s agricultural revolution and expressed hope that the relationship would yield lasting results.
The governor further revealed ongoing engagements with federal lawmakers to secure additional funding for the River Basin Authority, stressing the importance of sustainable infrastructure and food security in the region.
