The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has announced plans to overhaul both the men’s and women’s premier basketball leagues starting in 2025. Federation President Engr. Musa Kida unveiled the roadmap, which includes a more structured home-and-away format, better prize incentives, and efforts to attract robust private sector sponsorship.
This development comes on the heels of Nigeria’s growing international reputation in basketball, particularly the women’s national team, D’Tigress, who are preparing for the 2025 Afrobasket qualifiers. “Our leagues must reflect the excellence of our national teams. We’re building professional standards from the ground up,” Kida emphasized.
The federation also aims to secure television and digital media partnerships to increase fan engagement and player visibility. Consultations are underway with league administrators and marketing firms to ensure a smooth rollout.
