The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has expressed deep sadness over the passing of Alhaji Abba Yola, a former Chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club and a long-serving sports administrator.
Yola, who passed away on June 23, 2025, was celebrated for his unwavering commitment to the development of Nigerian sports, especially football and youth talent programs in northern Nigeria.
In a condolence message, the NOC described him as “a visionary whose leadership shaped the trajectory of Kano Pillars and inspired countless young athletes.”
His legacy includes the expansion of sports facilities in Kano State, advocacy for local league reform, and administrative mentorship for emerging club managers across the NPFL.
Tributes have poured in from across the football community, with Kano Pillars FC, the Nigeria Football Federation, and former players lauding him as “a sports father and builder.”
Funeral rites were held in accordance with Islamic traditions, and tributes are expected to continue at the upcoming NPFL awards.
