Nigeria Seeks China’s Support for Industrial Growth

The Nigerian government has called on China to support its industrialization efforts, particularly in electric vehicle production, digital communication, and agriculture.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, made the appeal during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Yu Dunhai in Abuja. She emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to economic diversification and strengthening Nigeria-China relations.

The minister urged China to waive trade tariffs for Nigeria, as it has done for 33 other African nations, and highlighted Nigeria’s growing interest in the Chinese language, with many universities eager to offer Chinese courses.

In response, Ambassador Dunhai reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic growth, citing the recent $2 billion currency swap agreement and major Chinese-funded projects such as road construction, rail modernization, and the Lekki Sea Port. He also expressed support for Nigeria’s inclusion in the G-20.

Both countries pledged to deepen their strategic partnership, fostering greater trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
