Maiduguri — In a bid to strengthen its civil-military relations and promote food security, the Nigerian Army has commenced the distribution of fertiliser to farming communities across conflict-affected areas of the North-East.
The initiative, launched under the Army’s community support programme, is aimed at helping farmers recover from years of disruption caused by insurgency and banditry. Commanders said the fertiliser distribution is part of broader non-kinetic strategies designed to win the trust of civilians and support their return to normal livelihoods.
At the flag-off ceremony, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai emphasized that the Army is not only focused on combat operations but also on supporting economic recovery in liberated communities. He noted that access to agricultural inputs would directly impact food supply, household incomes, and overall stability in the region.
Community leaders expressed gratitude, saying the gesture would greatly reduce farming costs and encourage displaced persons to return to their farmlands.
The Nigerian Army has in recent months expanded its outreach initiatives, including medical outreach programmes, provision of water, and reconstruction support in affected states. Military authorities maintain that such actions are critical to consolidating military gains and ensuring long-term peace
