The wife of imprisoned separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu has publicly asserted that her husband is confronting challenges more severe than those faced by the late South African icon Nelson Mandela.
In a statement shared on social media, she described her husband as not a “terrorist,” but rather a freedom fighter whose struggle draws solidarity from youths, students, and supporters across the Igbo community and diaspora.
Her remarks have stoked renewed debate around the status of Kanu’s detention, his trial, and the broader issues of activism, identity and justice in Nigeria, especially among communities sympathetic to his cause. The comments may deepen political fractures while raising fresh calls for transparency and fairness.
