Abuja — The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to renew respect for the country’s national symbols—Flag, Anthem, Pledge, Coat of Arms, Constitution—as the nation marks National Ordinance Day 2025.
Director-General Lanre Issa-Onilu, in a statement issued in Abuja, emphasised that these symbols are far more than ceremonial—they represent Nigeria’s identity, dignity, and unity. He noted that observance of the national favourites is a civic duty and a way to deepen patriotism.
NOA recently launched a two-week nationwide enlightenment campaign beginning August 20, focusing on themes such as the Nigerian Identity Project and National Symbols Campaign, to educate citizens—especially the youth—on the value of these national emblems.
Issa-Onilu urged schools, communities, civil society organisations, and government institutions to integrate respect for these symbols into daily activities, including proper flag-hoisting, vocal and correct singing of the anthem, and formal Pledge recitals at public events. He warned that neglect of these symbols erodes social cohesion and national identity over time.
