Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed claims that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s first year in office was a “waste,” insisting that the administration inherited an abandoned Edo State from former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Speaking in Benin, Oshiomhole said Obaseki’s government launched several groundbreaking ceremonies that produced few real projects. He described the PDP as a “dead party,” urging journalists to rely on verifiable developments across the state.
The senator highlighted ongoing projects, including the Ramat Park flyover and multiple road constructions, which he said are reducing travel time and boosting economic activity.
On education, Oshiomhole accused the past administration of neglecting schools and praised Okpebholo for rehabilitating facilities and recruiting 5,000 teachers. He also commended increased funding for state universities, noting that Ambrose Alli University’s monthly subvention rose from N41m to N500m, while Edo University Iyamho now gets N250m monthly.
Oshiomhole added that he remains committed to federal projects affecting Edo, including the reconstruction of the Benin–Auchi–Okene road after appeals to President Bola Tinubu.
His remarks follow criticisms from Edo PDP Chairman Dr Tony Aziegbemi, who alleged that Okpebholo’s government has stalled investment, mismanaged the economy, and disrupted EdoGIS land reforms.
