The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has indefinitely postponed its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, citing the ongoing wave of defections and internal instability within its ranks. The meeting was expected to address strategy ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, candidate zoning, and internal restructuring.
Party insiders said that with several high-profile members — including Governor Peter Mbah — defecting to the APC in recent days, the leadership deemed it prudent to delay formal strategy debates until the fallout is managed.
The postponement has fueled speculation of deeper divisions between party factions, with some members calling for leadership overhaul and reconciliation before any meaningful plan can be charted. Observers warn that the delay may weaken the PDP’s posture ahead of critical primaries and coalition negotiations.
