PSC, NPF launch recruitment of 30,000 new Police Officers to tackle National Security crisis

In a significant move to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security apparatus, the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have inaugurated a joint ad-hoc committee to commence the recruitment of 30,000 additional police officers.

The committee was launched in Abuja by PSC Chairman Hashimu Salihu Argungu (retired DIG), and is charged with ensuring that the recruitment process is conducted in a transparent, merit-based, and efficient manner. According to Argungu, the collaboration between PSC and NPF is critical to delivering a credible, fair, and successful hiring exercise.

The move comes on the heels of a directive from the federal government, which has prioritized boosting law-enforcement manpower to confront escalating security challenges across the country.

Representatives of the NPF including senior officials from its training and development department affirmed their full cooperation, pledging that the newly recruited officers will be trained to uphold public safety, protect lives and property, and respond to emerging security threats.

This recruitment drive aims to reduce the police-to-citizen ratio, enhance patrol coverage, and improve the overall capacity of the NPF to maintain law and order, an objective many security analysts and citizens have long demanded amid rampant insecurity, kidnappings, and communal violence.
