The Rivers State Elders Council has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly to set aside their political hostilities and work together in the interest of the people.
In a strongly worded statement, the elders lamented that months of conflict between the executive and legislature had slowed governance and diverted attention from pressing economic and social challenges. They noted that with President Tinubu lifting the state of emergency, the leaders of Rivers now carry a greater responsibility to prove that democracy can thrive without external intervention.
The council emphasized that Rivers occupy a central place in Nigeria’s economy due to its oil wealth and commercial importance, and warned that persistent political quarrels could erode public trust, scare investors, and deepen poverty in the state.
The elders urged both camps to embrace dialogue, compromise, and patriotism, stressing that only cooperation between the governor and lawmakers can restore stability and deliver long-term progress.
